BOYS' AND GIRLS' BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Peetz boys', girls' teams fall to Fleming

The Peetz High School boys’ basketball team traveled to Fleming for a battle for the top spot in the Class 1A North Central on Friday. The host Wildcats found home cooking to their liking in a convincing 67-45 win.

Peetz put itself in trouble from the opening tip when it opened with with a shaky start. The Bulldogs fell into a 38-16 hole after the first 16 minutes. While the Bulldogs played the Wildcats even the rest of the way, the die had already been cast over the first half. At one point the ‘Dogs managed to get within 10 in the third quarter at 45-35 before the rally stalled. A 12-0 Wildcats’ run to open the final quarter doomed the Peetz comeback attempt.

Casey Barrett led the Bulldogs in a balanced scoring attack with 12 points and Garrin Cox had 10. Bradey Holtz added nine points and Cody Wilson eight. Jaxon King led all scorers with 20 points for the Wildcats.

The Bulldogs record slipped to 6-4 overall and 3-1 in division play. Fleming upped its overall mark to 6-2 and remain undefeated in the division at 3-0.

Peetz has most of the week to recover before hosting division opponent Weldon Valley on Friday at 6 p.m.

GIRLS

Fleming 50, Peetz 35

The Fleming Lady Wildcats improved their record to 6-2 (3-0 1A North Central) with a 50-35 win over the Peetz Lady Bulldogs at Fleming on Friday night.

The Bulldogs fell to 4-6 overall and 1-3 in division play after a slow start compromised their chances for victory. The Lady Bulldogs fell into a 25-11 halftime hole and slipped further to a 43-21 deficit after three quarters.

Peetz was led in scoring by Jodi Schumacher with 11 points. Jennifer Gutierrez and Mikenna Curlee each contributed eight points.

Peetz will have another division matchup on Friday when it hosts Weldon Valley.
