Several longtime teachers will retire at end of school year
The Sidney School board members met on Monday night to appoint the board and committees for 2015.
Tom Von Seggern was re-elected again as board president and Steve Mattoon was reappointed as the vice president. Randall Flamig, Doug Means, Randy Miller, Janet Rosenbaum, Superintendent Jay Ehler and Secretary Deanna Kantor also all remained on the board.
In other business, the school board approved the resignations of three long-time Sidney High School teachers Tim Smith, Jane Holecheck and Brent Joyce, as well as Kim Castner. Smith and Joyce have each taught in Sidney for 42 years, while Holecheck has been a Sidney faculty member for 36 of her 42 years as a teacher.
The board also approve contacts for the 2015-16 school year for new teachers Christina Lilley, Amy Koozer and Chris Koozer, who was recently named the new Red Raider football coach.
Recognition and awards were presented to the December students of the month: seventh grade, Logan Wamsley; eighth grade, Kaylie Mason; ninth grade, Kaitlyn Christofferson; 10th grade, Brenda Maytorena; 11th grade, Jakob Olsen; and 12th grade, Vanessa Riley.
Additionally, the Sidney Sun-Telegraph was designated as the official district newspaper by the board.
The next school board meeting is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 2 at 5:30 p.m.
