The Potter-Dix High boys’ basketball team scored just 16 points in the first half on the way to a 61-31 blowout loss in their season opener against Sedgwick on Friday at home.
The Coyotes were outscored 27-13 in the third quarter and trailed 53-24 heading into the fourth.
Potter-Dix 52, Banner County 31
The Coyotes bounced back on Saturday with a convincing 52-31 against Banner County on the road. Potter-Dix improved to 1-1 on the season with the win.
Defense was a spark plug for Potter-Dix. The Coyotes’ defense held Banner County to nine points or less in each of the first three quarters, until it was outscored 14-6 in the final quarter.
Bridgeport 61, Leyton 42
Bridgeport junior Quentin Baxter scored 15 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 61-42 road win over Leyton in the Warrior’s season opener.
Leyton trailed 30-20 at halftime.
Leyton 60, Crawford 58
The Warriors played a much stronger game Saturday at home against Crawford, but ultimately fell 60-58 to the Rams. With the loss, Leyton dropped to 0-2 on the season.
Crawford freshman Blaine Flack exploded for 21 points, while senior Micheel Colton added 18 points.
Peetz 50, Community Christian 35
Peetz senior Casey Barrett and junior Garrin Cox combined for 34 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 50-35 home win over Community Christian in the season opener.
Caliche 77, Peetz 60
Caliche blitzed the Bulldogs 28-7 in the first quarter on Saturday and matched Peetz almost point for point the rest of the way, as the Buffaloes won 77-60. Peetz fell to 1-1 on the season.
Barrett dropped 19 points to lead Peetz for the second consecutive game, while Cox added 12 points and 10 points.
Creek Valley 42, Hyannis 38
After tailing by four heading into the fourth quarter, he Creek Valley Storm manufactured a 16-8 run to take a close 42-38 victory over Hyannis on the road.
Brett Godfrey and Colin Brott combined for 32 of the Storm’s 42 points.
Creek Valley 33, Maxwell 29
Brott led the way for the Storm with a 14-point effort in Creek Valley’s 33-29 home win over Maxwell on Saturday. The Storm moved to 2-0 on the year with the win.
