The Cheyenne County Ladies Chamber presented a check for $1,500 from the Taste of Sidney event to the Cheyenne County Community Center.
The donation will be used for Youth Athletic Club scholarships. The scholarships will help out youth who cannot pay for the programs or memberships to the community center.
"The Taste of Sidney event is a really good event, it's been going on for several years," said Cheyenne Community Center Director Mike Namuth. "It's nice to see the community come out and support this project because of the direction the funds are sent. The Youth Activities Club that we have here has been in existence since the community center started."
The Youth Activities Club has been a fundraising program that the community center used to accumulate funds and help the youth and youth groups in Sidney and Cheyenne County. This will help children in their pursuit to use the community center's programs and also the community center.
On Nov. 6, the Ladies Chamber held the Taste of Sidney event in the community center. They brought in a number of dishes and collected money to allocate into the Youth Athletic Club.
"It's a real great program," said Ladies Chamber representative Margaret Lienemann. "We don't know exactly how many kids are in the program, but we can help them play sports like soccer, football, baseball and basketball."
The Youth Activities Club has been around since the Community Center's opening in 1992. They look to continue helping the youth in Sidney enjoy and participate in youth sports. The Ladies Chamber will dissolve later this year, but is will pass on their community center charity duties to the Chamber of Commerce.
