Night at the Arts event raises funds for Sidney Public Schools Education Foundation

Talented students showcased their artistic genius on Tuesday evening as part of Sidney Public Schools Educational Foundation's "Night at the Arts."

It's the main annual fundraiser for the foundation, including a silent basket auction donated by various school organizations. Sidney High students provided entertainment through a fine arts display, the jazz band, choir and a one-act play.

While guests bid on the baskets and took in the art displayed on the wall, the Jazz band entertained with lovely background music. Solos provided by Destiny Baker, Abigail Frass and Jonathon Stokes showcased their beautiful voices. Following the cheesecake dessert, guests moved to the auditorium for a performance.

Quick, playful dialogue paired with mannequins transforming from statues to life, made the One Act play a delightful end to the evening. An enthusiastic 40 students participated in the play, "After Hours." Three mannequins have an adventure stopping two robbers interested in the store's cash after the owner locks the doors.

Catering the evenings event was Cindy Curtis and staff, and served to guests by the National Honor Society students dressed as serving staff in classy black and white. Being served by smart, service-oriented students ensured additional entertainment through conversation and water glasses that never went empty.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Educational Foundation provides scholarships for graduating seniors. By filling out one scholarship application, interested students apply for eight separate scholarships including: SPSEF, Hendricks, Dr. Herb and Dorothy Nelson, Paul Martin Outstanding, Jann Lawler Memorial, Fine Arts, Anne Hostert, and Winfrey Glenn scholarships.

Last year, $17,000 in scholarships were awarded to students, and the goal is to add to that sum this year. Interested students can look for information on scholarships applications toward the end of January.
