Two local horses, owned and trained by Sidney resident Garry Watt, owner of Watt Performance Horses, recently won prestigious awards.
Bella San Hickory, a 5-year-old horse mare, ridden by Watt, won the region five championship and the national championship in the American Stock Horse Association, competing in the "Green Horse" category. Watt and Bella earned the most points out of any other rider and horse pair during the 2014 show year.
The "Green Horse" category is a section of the "Working Cow Horse" shows for horses five years of age or younger. The required events in the "Green Horse" category include reigning, trail course, western riding and working a cow.
Another one of Watt's horses, Preferred Pepto, a 6-year-old quarter horse gelding, also took home the region five championship in the amatuer division and came in second place at the amatuer national championships. Preferred Pepto was ridden by Rachel Motzkus of Chappell, Neb.
