WNCC to offer free haircuts to veterans in November

The Western Nebraska Community cosmetology department in Sidney will offer free haircuts to veterans as part of the “Red, White and Blue, Honoring You” event.

Veterans and active duty military will receive a free haircut Tuesdays through Fridays during the month of November. Active or former military simply need to show their military identification to receive a free haircut.

WNCC Cosmetology also offers free haircuts at the Harms Advanced Technology Center at the Scottsbluff campus on Nov. 17.

Cosmetology Instructor Pamela Leever said the idea sprang from a conversation with her students on how best to honor veterans for Veterans Day.

“As the conversation grew more ideas came out, why not the whole month of November and what about active duty military also?” she said. “This is going to be an awesome opportunity for us to show our appreciation for veterans and active duty military as well, not to mention the experience for the cosmetology students.”

WNCC’s Sidney campus offers the only publicly funded cosmetology program in Nebraska. Previous events held by the students include two very successful free spa days for cancer survivors.
