Peetz crushes Hanover, Eads awaits in 2nd round

The Peetz Bulldogs football team (9-1) used a 30-point second quarter to blow away Hanover (8-2), 60-14 at home in the first round of the Colorado six-man state tournament on Saturday afternoon.

In what was expected to be a high scoring dogfight between two elite offenses, the Hornets never even showed up. Hanover was held scoreless in the first quarter and Peetz led 38-8 at halftime.

The Bulldogs used a balanced attack to fire off their 60 points. Sophomore Cody Wilson led Peetz in rushing with 73 yards on seven carries. Senior quarterback Bradey Holtz added 58 yards on seven handoffs and junior Jordan Nelson picked up 50 yards on 11 touches. All three runners scored twice, with Holtz also going 2-of-4 for 72 yards through the air. Senior wideout Casey Barrett caught both of Holtz’ passes.

Running back Erick Ijams ran the ball 26 times for 182 yards and a score for Hanover.

Peetz is now set to face Eads (10-0) in the second round. Kickoff is slated for Saturday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. at Eads High School.
