Coyotes outscored 34-0 in second quarter of 52-40 defeat
The Potter-Dix High football team fell behind in the first half and couldn't recover as the Coyotes lost 52-40 in the opening round of the Nebraska Class D2 state tournament on Thursday night.
Potter-Dix wraps up its season with a 5-4 record.
The Coyotes – a No. 9 seed – opened up a 12-6 lead after the opening quarter, but were outscored 34-0 in the second to fall behind 40-12 at the intermission. Potter-Dix battled back to make it a 46-32 game after three periods of play, but couldn't muster the comeback in the final quarter.
Cody Blackwell rushed the ball 23 times for 147 yards and three touchdowns for Paxton, which was the No. 8 seed and improved to 5-4. Blackwell also caught a pass for a TD. Teammate Kolton Carylyle had 11 carries for 98 yards and three scores.
