Peetz rolls again, selected as No. 3 seed in state tourney

The three-person rushing attack of Jordan Nelson, Cody Wilson and Bradley Holtz helped propel Peetz (Colo.) to a 79-32 shellacking of Stratton/Liberty on Friday night.

Nelson and Wilson each ran for four touchdowns as the Coyotes improved to 8-1 overall and 5-0 in district play. The four TDs for Nelson gave him 26 this fall, and his 156 points ranks him No. 9 among all players in Colorado this season.

Nelson ran for 161 yards on 14 carries, Holtz added 136 yards on 13 tries and Wilson chipped in 98 yards on nine attempts. Teammates Casey Barrett and Tre Fehringer caught touchdown passes for the Coyotes. Nelson also paced Peetz on defense, recording 26 tackles and recovering a fumble.

The Coyotes got off to a fast start in the win, streaking out to a 27-0 lead after the opening quarter. However, the Knighted Eagles managed to put 24 point of their own on the board in the second quarter to leave Peetz with a 42-24 lead at halftime. The Coyotes outscored Stratton/Liberty 37-8 in the second half to settle the issue.

Peetz is the No. 3 seed in the Colorado state 6-man playoffs, which start on Friday. The Coyotes will play unbeaten Hanover (9-0) in the opening round of the 8-team bracket on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Potter-Dix 46, Leyton 12

Potter-Dix wrapped its regular season with an easy win at home on Friday night against rival Leyton.

The Coyotes are the No. 9 seed in the 32-team Class D-2 state tournament. It opens play on the road Thursday at 6 p.m. against No. 8 Paxton (4-4). Earlier this season on Sept. 19, Paxton beat Potter-Dix 55-32.

Potter-Dix improved to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in district play, while the Warriors finished their season at 1-7 and 1-4.

Dundy County-Stratton 84, Creek Valley 22

Senior Dane McConnell ran for 153 yards and three touchdowns for Creek Valley in its season-finale. The Storm finished its season winless at 0-8 overall and 0-4 in district play.

Sophomore Sean Richardson added 83 yards rushing on nine carries for Creek Valley.

Dundy County-Stratton improved to 3-5, 2-3.
