What can you do for God?

In the first chapter of Acts, Luke writes about Jesus teaching the disciples before he would be taken up into heaven. During that time one of the disciples asked about God restoring Israel, too, which Jesus replied that was for the Father to do, and for them not to worry about it. Jesus goes on to tell them they were to wait in Jerusalem until they had received the promise from the Father, which was to be baptized (immersed) in the Holy Spirit, and they would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them. They were to be witnesses whenever they went.

So, why would an all powerful God empower a weak fallible man?

God knew what the apostles would have to endure and he knew they in their own selves (their flesh) could not do the work that had to be done, so he empowered them. The word in Greek meaning power is dunamis, which is where we get the word dynamite.

A witness is someone who has seen and heard something they can truthfully testify. An example of this is Peter. Peter was impetuous, but weak. He had denied Christ. But, after the baptism in the Holy Spirit, uneducated Peter preached his first sermon and thousands of people came to Jesus that day, and so the church was born.

But that was not the end of this story.

That same “dynamos” power is available to every believer today. But, you see, it must be used for the same reason in our lives as it was that first time, we as Christians (Christ-like or Little Christ’s) are called to be witnesses of the things God has done for us and through us. We are called to testify that our God is real and is working in this world today. All you have to do is ask God for that infilling or baptism so you can be his witness wherever you go.

So, why wait? God is ready to touch you and fill you so you can live victorious.
