The Sidney High varsity cross country teams produced yet another impressive showing Saturday morning at the Western Conference Invite at Deer Run Park. The boys' team took first with a score of 34, while the girls' squad finished second with a 27 – just two points behind Gering.
In the boys' race, senior Jachob Wiedeburg finished fourth overall out of 36 runners with a 5K time of 17:49. Brody McKnight and Hayden Lieneman followed, placing fifth and ninth overall, with times of 18:00 and 18:09 respectively.
Jacob Schaub crossed the finish line in 18:54 – good for 16th overall. Ryan Aurich ran a 19:24 and placed 22nd. Freshman Josh Schuab, who made his varsity debut Saturday, earned 24th place with a time of 19:37.
On the girls' side, the freshman led the way. Charlie Brockhaus finished sixth out of 27 runners with a 21:34. Chantal Riggs followed just a second behind Brockhaus and took seventh place.
Junior Erin Lindeman finished a tick behind Riggs for eighth, while Jami Flores placed 11th with a time of 21:44. Maddie Stafford came in 12th in 22:21 and Preslie Allen finished 13th with a time of 22:27.
The Sidney JV teams also fared well on Saturday. Both the boys' and girls' teams finished second and placed at least three runners in the Top 10.
For the boys, Logan Uhlir took first overall with a time of 19:16. Brenner Keane came in fourth, while fellow junior Keaton Wakefield finished seventh.
Abby Heller won the JV girls' race with a run of 22:08. Brenda Maytorena was fourth overall, Mia Hernandez took seventh and Elea McKnight was ninth.
The Sidney teams will compete in the Sidney Invite, their final regular season meet of the year, Thursday at 3 p.m.
