Sidney golf plays well at Best of West tourney

The Sidney High girls’ golf team performed well at the Best of the West tournament in Gering on Wednesday.

Twelve golfers from five schools – Sidney, Chadron, Gering, Bridgeport and Kimball – competed in the tournament held at Monument Shadows Golf Course. Sidney golfers represented half of the field.

Junior Rachel Blauert didn’t have her best day – shooting a 95 – but she still placed third overall and came in first on the Sidney team. Sam Rahmig of host Gering won the day with a score of 81. Chadron’s Alpine Hickstein followed in second with a round of 91.

The Sidney players all played from the white tees, which presented a longer than normal course and higher scores on an already challenging course.

Sidney senior Kaleigh Chavez placed fifth with a 99. Junior Megan Neal came in sixth with a 101 and freshman Emma Alexander placed seventh with a 106. Freshman Jordan Cook finished one stroke behind her for eighth. Senior Theda Parker completed her morning in 11th with a score of 115.

Sidney will travel to Lakeside Country Club in Lexington for districts on Monday. Tee time is set for 9:30 a.m., with the first Sidney players starting at 9:50 a.m.
