The Sidney High varsity girls’ golf team continued its hot streak down the home stretch of the season in Ogallala on Monday, placing placed second in a tournament at West Wind Golf Course.
The Lady Raiders recorded a score of 387 – finishing just four strokes behind champion Scottsbluff – to stretch its streak of top-three finishes.
Scottsbluff’s Jordan York won her third consecutive tournament with an 18-hole score of 78. Ogallala’s Maaika Mestl came in second, while Gering’s Sam Rahmig placed third.
A couple of newcomers made their debuts in the top five. North Platte’s Morgan Lashley shot an 88, which earned her fourth-place. Courtney Kohl, also of North Platte, came in fifth, also with an 88.
On a windy and eventually rainy late morning, the Lady Raiders proved they can handle playing in the elements. Head coach Dani Kuchar said her team was ready to play and fought through the distractions of a less-than-ideal day very well.
Junior Megan Neal shot a 96 and finished 8th overall to lead the Sidney team.
Freshman Jordan Cook and senior Theda Parker both broke their previous season lows from Saturday in Scottsbluff. Cook came in 10th with a 97, while Parker shot one stroke better than her teammate for 9th place.
Sidney’s Rachel Blauert had an off morning, shooting a 98 and missing the top 10 for the first time this season. Senior Kaleigh Chavez shot a 103. The fact that the Red Raiders were still able to take second despite two of their leaders not placing high on the leaderboard speaks to their team depth.
Sidney has one regular-season outing left in Alliance on Saturday before the Best of the West tournament in Gering on Oct. 1. The tee time in Alliance is 9 a.m.
