Darlene (Friede) Davis was the third daughter of 10 children born to John and Marie (Schreiner) Friede, on October 30, 1926. Darlene attended from grade school in northeast Cheyenne County, Nebraska across the road from the family farm. She drove to Lisco during her high school years, graduating in 1943. Darlene moved with her family to Lisco and helped in her parents' grocery store. She later went to work for the Garden County Clerk's office and worked there until after her marriage.

Darlene and Stanley (Jack) Davis eloped on October 31, 1949 and were married in the Methodist Church in Gering. They farmed in the Lisco area until March 1959 when they moved to the Buckeye Colorado area where they had purchased a ranch. The First Presbyterian Church was prominent in Darlene's life as was her Lord. Her middle name was Faith and her maiden name Friede translated into Peace.

Two sons were born to Jack and Darlene. Todd and Timm were born in the North Platte Valley. Timm was ill from birth and Todd joined his parents in the Colorado move. Todd was a freshman at Colorado State University when he fell through ice on a pond near his home and perished.

Darlene is survived by her sisters Carol Duffy and husband Jack, Kay Giggy and husband Tony, and Marjory Burnett, brothers Lonnie and Conrad Friede and his wife Joan, sister-in-laws Dixie and Carmen Friede and many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews along with her numerous friends.
