Betty May Andrews was born in Townsville, Queensland, Australia on September 13, 1931 to William Francis and Celia May McDonagh. Betty was raised in the town of Ingham and obtained her education at the Victoria plantation state school and continued her studies in music and art of speech with the Sisters of Mercy at the Ingham convent. Betty was successful in attaining her letters of A.L.C.M. and A.mus.A the former degree entitling her to an honorary seat in the House of Lords in England.
During her lifetime in Australia, Betty was involved in play and book writing having several children's books produced for T.V. screening and her major book "North of Capricorn" was produced on the local radio station. Betty was also successful in writing several musical plays which were produced on stage by local theatrical and dancing groups both in Ingham and in Townsville.
She married Alfred John Andrews on the 17th of November 1951 and together they had two children, Rosaleen May Kirkwood (San Antonio) and Kimball John Andrews (Brisbane). They were blessed with 6 grandchildren, Chaisleigh, Sally, Jamin, Jeremy, Raham and Benjamin and four great-grandchildren Sieanna, Raham John, Elijah and Jackson.
Betty was ordained a Deacon in the Anglican Church of Australia in December 1983 and together with her husband served in several parishes in the Diocese of North Queensland, before moving to the Diocese of Brisbane and then accompanying her husband to the parish of Christ Church, Sidney in the Diocese of Nebraska in 2003 where they ministered until November 2013.
