1933 to 2014

Barbara Allen Brandt Motes, 80 of Sterling, passed away Mon., June 2, 2014 in Sterling. Recitation of the Rosary will be 7 p.m., Sun., June 15, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Mon, June 16, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, with Rev. Wojciech Gierasimczyk officiating. Interment will be at the Christian Cemetery, Crook, Colo.

Barbara was born Sept. 21, 1933 north of Crook, Colo. in Logan County to Daniel and Marie Barbara Lauderback Brandt. She finished the eighth grade in school at Sidney. On Aug. 12, 1951 she married Jim Wesley Motes in Sidney. They then moved to the Denver area.

While living in Denver, Bobby worked in window display at Learner's Dept. Store, clerked at a Purity Creamery store, and also owned and operated with her husband an upholstery business specializing in aircraft upholstery. She attended Emily Griffith's Opportunity School, getting her G.E.D. She also worked at The Harvest House Restaurant, Safeway Stores and King Soopers data processing departments. In 1979 they bought their own semi truck and spent two years driving over the road. They came back to Sidney in Sept. 1982 where they operated "The Mill Restaurant and Lounge" until Dec. 1989. The couple moved back to Denver for seven years and back to Sidney, finally settling in Peetz.

Bobby is survived by sister Beth Brandt; grandchildren Sandra Bradford, JoAnn Christensen, Daniel Motes, Lavena Olson; great grandchildren Joey Johnson, Cassie Bradford, Katie Olson, Edward Sanders, Kiefer Olson, Lamont Bradford, Dylan Olson, Sara Sanders, Kenneth Hollaway, Anthony Bradford, Kaylee Kuttler, Karey Olson; and great great grandson Kip Olson.

She was preceded in death by granddaughter Linda Ann, daughter Marie Sarah, husband Jim, son Arthur Daniel, parents Marie and Daniel Brandt, three brothers and three sisters.
