Norma Jeanne (Wester) Wagner

Norma Jeanne (Wester) Wagner, 88, of Big Springs, passed away Tuesday, May 20th, 2014.

Memorial services will be held Fri., May 30th, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Big Springs with Pastor Alice Koech officiating. Inurnment will be the same day at Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney at 3 p.m.

Norma Jeanne was born April 2, 1926 in Elm Creek, Neb., to Floyd H. and Viola F. (Schrack) Swanson. She first attended country school between ElmCreek and Overton before moving to Lexington, then to Loup City, graduating from Fremont High School in 1944. She attended college at UNL. Norma Built and managed Daisy Queen in Sidney. She moved to Big Springs in 1983 and worked as a cook at the Covered Wagon. She also volunteered at the Julesburg Welcome Center.

In 1946 Norma Jeanne married Roger H. Wester in Sheridan, Wyo., the two were married until 1968. She then married James Wagner in 1970. She was Girl Scout Leader in Sidney, a member of ladies sorority in Sidney, singing member of Big Springs Methodist Church, she liked to knit, crochet, read, and loved going to the lake and boating. She especially enjoyed family time and going on trips with welcome center staff. Norma took swimming lessons from Jan Parker in Ovid and joined a group of adults that took vacations to the Black Hills, and rode the steam engine in Durango.

Norma Jeanne is survived by daughter Karen Engelker & husband Herman of Julesburg, Colo., daughter Dona Fraas & husband Larry of Lodgepole, son Roger Wester & wife Melissa of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Eight grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by daughter Sherry Lynn, father and mother Floyd and Viola Swanson, and husband James Wagner.

Memorials can be made in Norma's name in lieu of flowers to the United Methodist Church of Big Springs, 203 E. 3rd St., Big Springs, NE 69122. Austin-Tennant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
