6th grade S. M. A. C. participants at West Elementary show off homemade blankets they presented to Sheriff John Jenson and Police Chief B. J. Wilkinson on Tuesday. Mrs. Fry's and Mrs. Waite's reading group students made 20 blankets as part of their service project for the program, in hopes that the officers will keep them in their patrol cars for emergencies. The students were enthusiastic about the project. "I felt really good because I knew we were going to be helping people," said student Zak Wieser.
The S. M. A. C. program was developed in 2007 by Carla Brauer, Sheri Ehler, and Officer Curtis Hofrock to help kids make informed decisions when confronted with issues such as drugs, cyber bullying, and internet safety.
