LaNaya Gutierrez is the recipient of the Cheyenne County Family and Consumer Education College Scholarship for the 2014-15 school year. LaNaya is the daughter of Henry and Penny Gutierrez of Sidney.
LaNaya has participated in several school activities and received many awards during her Sidney High School career including:
• Awards: Academic All-State, National Honor Society, Letter Winner Varsity Cheer, Letter Winner Choir, Letter Winner Speech, and Varsity Cheer Captain
• Activities: Varsity Cheerleader, One Acts Play Production, Speech Team Member, Choir Member, High Plains Honor/Women’s Choir, Swing Choir Member and Spring Musical
• Community: Teens in Prevention (President & Vice-president), Kid’s Plus Member, RAMA, and Sidney Youth Leadership Summit Chairperson
• Other Awards: Rotary Youth Leadership Summit, Utah Leadership Summit, and Sidney Youth Leadership Summit
The mission of the National Association for Family and Community Education is to strengthen individuals, families and communities through continuing education, leadership development and community service. The Cheyenne County Family and Consumer Education (FCE) organization has 12 members. The FCE organization awards one college scholarship each year to a resident of Cheyenne County or a graduate of a Cheyenne County high school who plans to major in a Human Science related field.
LaNaya plans to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln this fall and major in Event Planning and Business.
