1919 to 2014
Wilson Eugene "Gene" Triplett died April 28, 2014 at Life Care Center. He was 94 years old.
He was born May 26, 1919 in Chappell, Neb. to Wilson K. and Freida (Sudman) Triplett. He graduated from Chappell High School in 1937 and while there was a member of the basketball team.
Gene was inducted into the US Army on Feb. 7, 1941 and served as a surgical technician with the medical detachment of the 134th Infantry. He saw action at Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart. Gene was honorably discharged on Oct. 17, 1945.
Returning home to Nebraska he married Arlene Johnson on Nov. 12, 1946 at Chappell where they made their home for a short time until moving to Sidney, and eventually to Longmont in 1962.
Gene was a meat cutter, working for a packing house in Sidney and for several grocery stores in Longmont including: Miller's Super Market, that became National Tea; Corner Pantry, Ideal Market and finally King Soopers. He retired in 1989.
He was a member of United Food & Commercial Workers Local #7; Longmont Moose Lodge #1548, P.B.O. Elks Lodge #1055, American Legion Post 32, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2601, where he was a Past Commander. He also served at the State level of the VFW and was selected as a member of the All-State Team of Post Quartermasters for the Department of Colorado for the year 1983-84 and selected as a member of the All-State team of Post Commanders for the Department of Colorado for the year 1986-87.
Gene enjoyed fly fishing; his vegetable garden, the Broncos, Rockies and Nuggets and was an avid bowler belonging to several leagues.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother William K. Triplett.
Gene is survived by his wife Arlene of Longmont, three daughters Charlene Stetson (Larry) of Longmont, Katherine Nuss (Gary) of Mead and Marilyn Lawyer of Longmont; seven grandchildren Ronald Stetson (Julie), Christine Stetson, Allen Nuss (Becky), Janet Nuss, Bill Lawyer (Tara), Harry Lawyer and John Lawyer, eight great grandchildren Joshua and Brianna Nuss, Lily, Adalia, Rylan, Reagan, Amber and Katie Lawyer, and two nephews Steve and Lee Triplett.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2014 at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Military honors by the US Army Honor Guard and American Legion Post 32. Private inurnment at Foothills Gardens of Memory.
