Peetz pounds Weldon Valley to wrap up regular season

Bradey Holtz hit for the cycle and the Peetz baseball team couldn’t have found a better way to wrap up their regular season Tuesday as they swept both games from district rival Weldon Valley.

Because of limited practice time and a truncated game schedule early in the season, the Bulldogs had struggled to get comfortable at the plate. After regular slate of games recently, and routine practices, Peetz exploded for 46 runs on their home diamond.

Peetz turned back the Warriors by scores of 25-6 and 21-8.

“We’re much more comfortable at the plate now after being able to get in some regular practice time,” said Bulldogs Head Coach Darrin Fehringer. “Being able to see more pitches in the cage and in actual games, we’re not swinging at so many bad pitches anymore.”

Holtz picked up the win in the opening game as he went 3 1/3 innings with 7 strikeouts. Garrett Roelle pitched well in relief as he fanned a pair in 1 1/3 innings of work.

Holtz had a perfect day at the plate as he went 2-2 with two walks and three runs scored in game one and hit for the cycle in the nightcap.

In game two he was 5-5 with a home run, triple, double, two singles, a walk and scored six runs.

Other hitting stars for Peetz included Tre Lewis, Cody Wilson, Roelle and Logan Vach.

Lewis went 2-3 in the opener in addition to being hit by a pitch and scoring a pair of runs. He was 4-5 in the later affair with a walk and a triple. Lewis did his damage hitting out of the two hole after batting near the bottom of the lineup most of the season.

“He’s getting more and more confident at the plate and was very comfortable batting second,” said Fehringer.

Wilson hit 1-2 in the first game with three walks. Roelle was twice hit by a pitch in the opener and scored five runs. In the second game he reached base five more times by going 3-3 with a triple and two walks and scored three more times.

Vach reached base five times in game two with a triple and three runs scored.

Peetz will face Weldon Valley again in the opening round of the district tournament on May 1, at Northeast Junior College in Sterling. The official brackets and game times will be announced shortly.
