Marie Elizabeth Johnson, the daughter of William and Marie (Groskopf) Glanz was born Dec. 27, 1925 on a farm near Gurley, in Cheyenne County. She was the fourth of five children. Her only brother died at the age of four years, leaving just four girls. These four sisters remained close throughout the years and enjoyed many happy times when their families were together. Marie was baptized at home, April 11, 1926 by Pastor John Eckhard who was Pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Bayard. In those days it was difficult to get into town and was not often done. Marie attended Bunker Hill School and was confirmed by Pastor Kahse on April 6, 1941 at what is now known as Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Marie graduated from Sidney High School in 1943 and began working at the Cheyenne County Extension Office. It was during this time Marie met Robert L. Johnson.

On Sept. 21, 1947, Marie and Bob were united in marriage by Pastor Monnich at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. They moved to Bridgeport where Bob worked for the Soil Conservation District and returned to Sidney in 1950. They raised their family and have many fond memories of fishing and camping trips.
