State seeks to prove premeditation in Martinez case; defense claims “he just lost it”

On July 18, 2012, allegedly inflamed by an insulting text message, Larry Martinez shot and killed 30-year-old Mandy Kershman.

Monday marked the first day of a weeklong trial in Cheyenne County District Court which will determine if Martinez, now 54, is guilty of first degree murder and the use of a firearm to commit a felony.
