New company donates to local non-profit

Bell Lumber and Pole decided to precede its grand opening, May 8, with a charitable donation to the community.

Bell, which will soon open its utility pole treatment facility on the Adams Industries site west of Sidney, donated $2,500 to CASA or court appointed special advocates earlier this year.

The company contacted the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce to learn about donation-worthy organizations in the area. The chamber recommended CASA.

CASA is a non-profit organization which serves as the voice of abused and neglected children in the courts system. Right now the Cheyenne County chapter has six volunteers.

"It's not often you see a large corporation like that, before they even start doing business have already been contributing to the community," said Susan Stone, director of Cheyenne County CASA.

CASA volunteers deal with only one family at a time.

"Anything that needs to be relayed to the judge on the case, the CASA volunteer is that child's voice," Stone said.

Stone expressed her thanks to the chamber for suggesting a donation to CASA and to Bell Lumber and Pole for its contribution.

"First of all, I was surprised that it wasn't already an existing company in town and that they were kind of putting the donation to the community before doing business in the community and that was kind of nice," Stone said. "You don't see that very often."
