Dorothy Hanson, 81 of Chappell, passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Sidney Regional Medical Center, Extended Care.

Memorial services will be held on March 22, 2014 at the Assembly of God in Chappell at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Rich Graeff officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Dorwart Cancer Center.

Cremation has taken place and there is no visitation at the funeral home.

Dorothy Mae Hanson the only child of Walter and Viola (Brown) Robbins was born on July 8, 1932 in Sidney.

Dorothy Spent her early years in California, moving with her parents to Oregon in her teens to finish High School and help the family with chicken ranching.

Dorothy married Clifford Rennewanz in 1952, moving to Detroit Lakes, Minn. where she resided until 1970. To this union two children were born: Linda and Aldean Rennewanz.

Dorothy married Leon Hanson on Jan. 8, 1968 at Murdo, S.D., extending her family to include Lyle, Ann, Mark and Bruce Hanson. In 1970 Leon and Dorothy moved their family to Peetz, Colo. to be closer to her parents who at that time reside in Sidney.

Dorothy and Leon loved seeing new places and meeting new people, so during their union they have resided in Minnesota, Colorado, Oregon, California, South Dakota and finally settling in Chappell in 2000.

Dorothy loved keeping busy by gardening, canning, decorating her house, sewing and she was noted for her cooking, but her true love was traveling and camping with her family and until shortly before her death Dorothy was able to make yearly trips driving herself and Leon to Oregon and California to visit family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by her husband Leon Hanson, her daughters Linda Roelle and husband Carl of Peetz and Ann Mick and husband Doug of Chappell; sons Lyle Hanson of Sterling, Aldean Rennewanz of Peetz, Mark Hanson and wife Dana of Fort Morgan and Bruce and wife Debbie Hanson of Sterling; 13 Grand children and 14 Great-grandchildren.

She was proceeded in death by her parents her first husband (Clifford Rennewanz) and one grandchild (Michael Hanson)

Holechek Funeral Home and Cremations in Chappell is serving the Hanson family.
