West Elementary sixth grader Haley Kennedy knows what it must have been like for children living during the American Revolution.
For starters, she said, "you would have had to help with the family farm or business and do extra chores."
Her essay on the subject, written as part of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution contest, was recently awarded first place in the state.
Students taking part in the contest were asked to explore the lives of children during the Revolutionary War in no more than 1,000 words. The essays had to include a bibliography of reference source...
