Potter-Dix, Peetz fall

Despite senior Bryant Knigge surpassing the 1,000-point plateau for his high school career, the No. 2 Potter-Dix Coyotes were eliminated from the race to state, falling 70-49 to the No. 1 Hemingford Bobcats at Mitchell High School Thursday night.

Hemingford will advance to the D1-6 district finals at Cabela’s Athletic Facility on Tuesday. The Bobcats will meet North Platte St. Patrick’s at 6:30 p.m. in a game to determine the state qualifier.

The Coyotes finished their season with a mark of 10-12 while Hemingford is now at 18-6.

Unofficially, Knigge entered the sub-district finals just 6 points shy of 1,000. He finished the contest leading all scorers with 18 for a career total of 1,012. Knigge, the only senior on the Potter-Dix roster, was the team leader in scoring with an average of just over 18 points-per game. This year he scored 381 points, with a high of 28 against Banner County on Jan. 21.

The Bobcats took it to Potter-Dix from the start as they jumped out to a 25-9 lead after eight minutes and had a 41-20 lead at the half.

Cameron Purcell backed up Knigge 9 points while Kelsey Rozelle and Trevor Harms each had 5. Harms led the way on the boards with 7 rebounds and Purcell pulled down 5.

Despite Peetz losing a lopsided affair to the Caliche Buffaloes on Thursday night, they still have a path to regionals.

The No. 2 Bulldogs dropped an 84-38 decision to No. 3 Caliche in a semi-final game of the 1A District 4 playoffs at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling Thursday night. The ‘Dogs will now have to fight their way through the third-place game against Briggsdale on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

The 1A District 4 championship game will be played between the No. 5 Fleming Wildcats and Caliche at NJC at 1:30 p.m. Though the Wildcats finished the regular season at 8-12, they are now on a four-game winning streak. Both have already punched their ticket to regionals. Fleming reached the finals with a 52-50 thriller over Briggsdale.

The Bulldogs now must win against the Falcons on Saturday morning in order to advance.
