Cabela's to expand in three states

Cabela’s expects to begin construction on The Ranch, its local housing development as well as a headquarters expansion this year. At the same time, the corporation also plans to expand its retail presence nationwide. Last week Cabela’s announced plans to build three new stores.

Cabela’s expects to open a store in Ammon, Idaho in spring 2015. This 42,000 square foot store is the company’s third in the state and will serve the Idaho Falls area.

The store is expected to employ around 90 workers. Customers at this store will be able to make online orders of Cabela’s merchandise through in-store order kiosks and pick up those purchases at the store.

“It’s incredibly exciting to announce a third location in Idaho, a place Cabela’s loves,” said Tommy Millner, Cabela’s Chief Executive Officer in a press statement. “The continued loyalty of Cabela’s customers across the state, coupled with the success of our Boise and Post Falls locations, made it an easy decision to open a store in Ammon.”

Another opening is planned in Short Pump, Virginia for Spring 2016, which will serve the Richmond area. This will be the company’s second store in Virginia, in addition to a store in Bristol scheduled to open in 2015. It will employ around 150 workers.

“The tremendous reception we received to the Bristol announcement made it clear that Virginians are hungry for the Cabela’s retail experience,” Millner said in the statement. “We’re thrilled to begin the project and look forward to opening the doors.”

A fall 2015 open is planned for a 70,000-square-foot Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia store, which will serve the Chattanooga, Tenn. area.

Cabela’s plans to open two additional Georgia stores before this location, one in Augusta in March and another in Acworth. The openings are slated for fall of this year. The Chattanooga area store will employ around 140 people.

“This store will allow us to better serve the thousands of outdoorsmen and women who live the Cabela’s lifestyle across the region,” Millner said. “We look forward to serving the area for years to come.”

Cabela’s anticipates 23 more new store openings in the next two years, to add to the 50 it currently operates in North America.
