Storm boys on a hot streak, cruise past South Platte

Creek Valley won their third game in their last four tries on Friday with a 62-45 win over the South Platte Blue Knights.

“It was a good win. We played good solid man-to-man until we got in foul trouble,” said Storm Head Coach Roger Behrends. “We gave up some easy shots against our zone.”

Creek Valley girls knock off Knights, head into

sub-district play

The Storm team wrapped up their regular season in style on Friday with a 56-26 win over non-district opponent South Platte in Big Springs.

The Storm finish their regular season with a record of 12-5 before heading to Mitchell for sub districts on Tuesday. The Blue Knights ended their 2013-14 campaign at 5-10. Creek Valley was installed as the second seed in the Class D1-12 tournament and will face No. 3 Morrill in the first round at 6:30 p.m.

Late Caliche burst dooms hard working Bulldogs

Peetz had to contend with a rude host in Caliche on Friday as the Buffaloes exploded in the second half for a 68-50 win in non-league action.

The Bulldogs (10-7) held a first-half advantage over the tough Caliche team (15-2) at 37-34. But the Buffaloes pulled away, outscoring Peetz 21-6 in the third frame.

“We played a very good game against a great team,” said Peetz Head Coach Bill Fiscus. “We were unable to come out the second half and finish. This was five games in seven days for both teams and in showed in many shots being short. It was a great effort by the Bulldogs.”

Josh Fiscus was the high scorer for the ‘Dogs with 15 points. The freshmen duo of Tre Lewis and Cody Wilson contributed with 14 points and 8 points, respectively.

Fiscus also had 3 steals and 5 assists to lead the team in both categories. Lewis was the board hog with a team high 12 rebounds.

The Bulldogs will have most of this week off from competition before facing league opponent Fleming on Friday at home. Game time for the junior varsity girls game is set for 4 p.m.

Peetz falters at Caliche

It was tough sledding for the Peetz girls on Friday, as they dropped their lone weekend contest to the talented Caliche team 50-31.

The win advanced the Buffaloes record to 16-1 on the year while the Bulldogs slipped back to 9-8.

The Bulldogs stayed with the Buffs for much of the first quarter. Peetz trailed by just 15-11 after the opening eight minutes. Caliche, however, slowly smothered their hosts. Peetz was hampered by its anemic shooting from outside. They could not sink a three pointer in 12 tries.

Beth Bernhardt was the Bulldogs scoring leader with 12 points while Melissa Schumacher added 9. Mallori Bjerke led the team in rebounds with 7 and assists with 2.

Five players had a steal including Schumacher, Morgan Burns, Bernhardt, Whitney Christian and Baily Lewis. Bernhardt also had 3 blocks.

Peetz will be in action again on Friday against league foe Fleming with the JVs set to get underway at 4 p.m.

The Potter-Dix boys dropped a road game at Pine Bluffs, 71-44. Meanwhile the Coyotes girls also suffered a loss, 41-30.
