Storm come up empty in tough districts

Representing Creek Valley at the Class D District 4 District Championships in North Platte on Saturday, Mason Low and Gage Koenen fell short in their attempts to qualify for state.

Low finished his districts with a record of 1-2 in contested matches while Koenen wasn’t able to get past two state qualifiers.

In the quarterfinal round at 195 lbs. Low was stopped by eventual state qualifier Emmett Hoover of Hyannis by a pin at 1:29. In the consolation round Low rebounded by pinning Brandon Holtz in 1:24. Low’s state hopes, however, were dashed when he faced another tough opponent in the consolation semifinal round. Nathaniel Foster of Sutherland, who also qualified for state, turned Low back by major decision 13-3.

At 220 lbs. Koenen had the tough assignment of facing Stevin Horrocks - the eventual district winner. Horrocks turned back Koenen with a pin in the first period. In the consolation semifinals, Wyatt Rowe of Hyannis defeated Koenen at 1:00.
