Storm top Leyton, make amends for MAC loss

Summer Mueller scored 20 points to lead Creek Valley to a 54-38 win against rival Leyton in Dalton on Friday night.

The Storm girls (10-5) earned a small measure of revenge over the Warriors, who eliminated them from the MAC Tournament last month in Sidney.

The Warriors, who went on to win the MAC championship, saw its record dip to 9-8 on the season.

In addition to her game-high 20 points, Mueller assisted on 8 other Storm baskets and had 7 steals. Jerry Straber also pickpocketed 7 Warriors’ possessions.

Hannah Schievelbein was a force under the glass as she pulled down 10 rebounds. Shania Brown reeled in 7 boards.

Kelsey Waite led a balanced Warriors scoring attack with 9 points. Kaitlyn Berner added 7 while Shaela Jenkins and Katy Ernest each dropped in 6.

Berner’s offensive contributions included 5 assists.

Defensively, Ernest was the most productive on the boards for Leyton with 9 rebounds. Dani McKay hauled in 7 off the glass while the Kelsey Waite added 6 and Diedra Waite 5 rebounds. Jessica Houk and Berner each had a pair of steals. Diedra Waite blocked 2 shots for the visitors.

Creek Valley takes to the floor again on Tuesday with a non-district tussle with Perkins County in Chappell. The Plainsmen of Class C2 have struggled thus far this season with a 1-17 record. The Junior Varsity girls are expected to tip off at 4 p.m.

Hornets sting Warriors

TheWarriors (9-8) dropped their second game in as many days when the Pine Bluffs Hornets (8-5) erased a two-point deficit after three quarters to win 44-36.

Dani McKay was the high scorer for the visiting Warriors as she pumped in 9 points. Kelsey Waite scored 8 while Katy Ernest added 7.

Diedra Waite was the top rebounder for Leyton with 8 while McKay and Ernest had 6 and 5 respectively. Berner and McKay aided the defensive cause with 3 steals apiece. Diedra Waite and Shaela Jenkins each added 2 steals and a block to the Warriors cause.

Leyton plays host to Bayard on Tuesday, scheduled for a 4 p.m. junior varsity start. The Warriors will hold Senior Night for the girls on Thursday night when Garden County comes to town.

Coyotes fall to Garden County, Burns

The Coyotes suffered a disappointing weekend, dropping a pair of games at home. The weekend of struggles left the Coyotes with a record of 9-8.

After being deadlocked at 22-22 after the first half on Friday night, the Garden County Eagles inched away in the final 16 minutes for a 49-44 to hand Potter-Dix a non-league loss. Burns visited Potter on Saturday and stymied its hosts 58-27 in another non-league contest.

Freshman Alexus Rozelle was the high scorer for Potter-Dix on Friday with 14 points. Taylor Juelfs also reached double figures with 11 points. Dawson Sharman and Juelfs each lent a pair of assists to the offense.

Rozelle was a ball hawk on the boards as she pulled down 12 rebounds. Morgan Wolff had 5. Four Coyotes had 3 steals which helped them to a total of 15 on the game: Sharman, Tiffany Lewis, Rozelle and Juelfs. The remained were credited to Wolff (2) and Savannah Shaw.

Against Burns no Coyotes player could manage more than 5 points. Wolff’s 5 led while four other players put 4 on the board: Sharman, Lewis, Shaw and Lanie Moench.

Juelfs had 4 assists.

Rozelle was again strong on the glass as she had 10 rebounds while Sharman brought down 5. Three players--Lewis, Rozelle and Moench--registered a pair of steals each.

The Coyotes will try to rebound at Peetz on Tuesday.

Bernhardt’s 15 not enough to save Peetz

The Briggsdale Falcons (12-2, 7-1) kept their place atop the 1A North Central standings as they turned back the Bulldogs 64-50 on Friday night.

The loss drops Peetz record to 8-5 while their league mark slipped to 4-4.

Beth Bernhardt topped the scoring chart for the Bulldogs with 15 points to go along with a team-high 8 boards. Melissa Schumacher added 10 poins while Morgan Burns dropped in 8.

Schumacher led the team in two categories, assists (4) and steals (2). Whitney Christian also had a pair of thefts. Burns aided the defense with 2 blocks.

The Bulldogs welcome in the Potter-Dix Coyotes to Peetz on Tuesday evening with the junior varsity action set to be whistled into action at 4 p.m.
