Warriors too strong for Creek Valley, Pine Bluffs

“We played a good first half. We were only down by 12,” said Creek Valley Head Coach Roger Behrends of the Friday game. “In the second half Leyton’s pressure got to us. I was very dissapointed in our rebounding. That has to get better.”

Bulldogs toppled by Briggsdale, recover to down Weldon Valley

The Peetz Bulldogs boys basketball team split a pair of weekend games against league opponents to brings their season record to 8-6.

Though Peetz held a narrow 20-19 edge at halftime on Friday night at Briggsdale, the league-leading Falcons came on strong in the second half for a 53-45 win. Briggsdale remains perfect in league play with an 8-0 mark while holding a record of 9-5 overall.

Peetz holds down second place in the league.

On Saturday the Bulldogs returned home to put in a strong second-half performance to down Weldon Valley 80-66.

Josh Fiscus was the high scorer on Friday with 21 points while Tre Lewis finished up with 11. Fiscus added 4 assists to the Bulldogs offensive effort.

On the glass, the Bulldogs pulled down rebounds by committee. Austin Wilson and Lewis each had 5 boards while Bradey Holtz, Cody Wilson and Corbin Heller recorded 4 apiece. Lewis and Cody Wilson were the leading ball hawks with a pair of 2 each.

“It was a tough loss to a good Briggsdale team,” said Peetz Head Coach Bill Fiscus. “They were able to control the tempo and we were unable to get out a run.”

In the victory over Weldon Valley the Bulldogs extended their 31-29 halftime lead with a 27-17 third quarter to win going away.

Fiscus was again the high scorer with a season-high 37 points, hitting 17-18 from the free-throw line. He also assisted on 6 other Bulldogs buckets.

“This was a very exciting game to watch and play,” said Coach Fiscus. “We were able to get Weldona into an up-tempo game and this led to many easy points. They are a very tall team and we knew that the faster we played the better chance we would have.”

Peetz takes a break from a busy league schedule of late to take on local Nebraska rival Potter-Dix on Tuesday at home.

The junior varsity is scheduled to get the action underway at 4 p.m.
