Warriors pound Minatare, edged by Crawford
Leyton had a mixed weekend as they as they split a pair of games.
On Friday night Leyton pounded district rival Minatare 48-22 on the road. On Saturday the Warriors had a fourth quarter comeback attempt fall short. Visiting Crawford escaped with a 51-48 win.
The Warriors, however, remain perfect in their district with a 6-0 mark. They are 9-6 overall.
Twelve Leyton players scored in the win at Minatare: Katy Ernest (7 points) Diedra Waite (6), Kaitlyn Berner (5), Carly Rushman (5), Jessica Houk (5), Katelyn Higgins (4), Abbegail Draper (4), Shaela Jenkins (3), Dani McKay (3), Hope Dykman (2), Natalie Cruise (2) and Taylor Berner (2).
Ernest led on the boards with 12 rebounds while Diedra Waite pulled down 6 and Kelsey Waite 5. Cruise had 6 steals and Houk 5.
Against Crawford, the Warriors were undone by a 22-5 second quarter after taking a 15-10 first period lead.
Leyton made a comeback attempt by outscoring the Rams in the second half, but just came up short.
Ernest led the offensive effort for the Warriors with 12 points while Diedra Waite had 10, Berner 9 and Kelsey Waite 8. Ernest added 12 more rebounds and Diedra Waite 10.
Leyton will look to rebound on Tuesday when they take on Sedgwick County.
Creek Valley too much for Crawford
The Storm returned to their winning ways on Friday, claiming a 54-43 win over Garden County in Oshkosh.
Creek Valley upped their season record to 9-5 while the Eagles slipped to 6-8.
Jerry Straber led the offensive charge for the Storm with 14 points while Summer Mueller added 12 and Hannah Schievelbein 10. Schievelbein hit 5 of the 7 shots she attempted while Mueller was equally deadly on the night, knocking down 6 of 8.
Schievelbein was also strong on the boards as she pulled down 12 rebounds. Jessie Straber had 7 steals and 5 assists.
Creek Valley will try to avenge its loss to Leyton in the MAC Tournament when they visit the Warriors on Friday.
Coyotes sweep through weekend’s games
The Coyotes made a clean sweep of its weekend with victories over struggling Banner County and Minatare.
Potter-Dix faced little resistance from the Banner County Wildcats in Harrisburg in a 52-29 non-league victory on Friday. MInatare proved little match for Potter-Dix, as well, the hosts rolling to a 59-31 on Saturday.
Potter-Dix is now 9-6 on the season. MInatare dropped to 0-14 while the the Wildcats are now 2-13.
Taylor Juelfs and Alexus Rozelle were the high scorers against Banner County. Juelfs had 15 points and Rozelle 11. Rozelle also had 11 rebounds.
Morgan Wolff contributed with 5 assists and 5 steals. Juelfs also had 5 assists.
On Saturday, Juelfs was again on the top of the scoring sheet. This time she had company, as Courtney Lewis matched Juelfs 15 points. Wolff added 8 more.
Rozelle was again the rebound leader with 9. Dawson Sharman had 4 steals. Three players had a trio of thefts--Rozelle, Juelfs and Wolff.
The Coyotes will welcome Burns, Wyo. to Potter on Saturday on Senior Night.
Pawnee slips past Bulldogs 41-40
The Peetz Bulldogs girls basketball team was defeated 41-40 by Pawnee on the road Saturday in a 1A North Central battle.
The Bulldogs record dropped to 8-4 while Coyotes upped their mark to 4-9.
