Warriors pound Hay Springs

The Leyton boys basketball team had little trouble with the Hay Springs Hawks as the Warriors trounced their hosts 63-22 on Saturday.

The win keeps the Warriors perfect on the road at 4-0 while they upped their overall mark to 6-2. The Hawks have struggled to an 0-10 record so far this season.

Cody McKay led four Leyton players in scoring with 19 points. The other double fugure scorers were Alex W. Frerichs and Brennen Cruise with 11 each and Dylan Brenner with 10. Overall nine Warriors flexed the twine, including James Rushman (5), Zach Hellie (2), Seth Schuessler (2), Drew Brenner (2) and Josh Reimers (1).

Leyton returns to Bridgeport for a rematch with the Class C2 Bulldogs on Tuesday night. When last the two teams met on Dec. 7, the ‘Dogs got the better of Leyton by a 61-43 decision. On that night Leyton could only manage 2-20 from behind the arc and 18-55 shooting overall.

“We’re going up there with the intention of winning,” said Warriors Head Coach Gary Oltmann. “Of course we’re going to have to shoot better and I know we can give them a good ball game.”

The Warriors travel to Potter-Dix on Friday.
