Peetz falls just short in weekend games

The Peetz Bulldogs dropped a pair of close weekend games by the identical margin of 5 points.

In Friday’s contest with district opponent Briggsdale, the ‘Dogs let a 48-48 fourth-quarter tie get away from them as they dropped a 55-50 decision at home. The Bulldogs traveled to Merino less than 24 hours later where they dropped a 72-67 decision to the Rams.

“We had a few mental breakdowns that cost us the game,” said Bulldogs Head Coach Bill Fiscus of the Briggsdale game.

Briggsdale remains unbeaten in the district at 3-0 while Peetz dropped to 2-1. Merino is 4-3 overall.

Josh Fiscus led the Bulldogs scoring attack against the Briggsdale Falcons with 22 points while Tre Lewis added 10 and Casey Barrett 9. Lewis was also the top rebounder for the Bulldogs with 6. Corbin Heller pulled down another 5. Fiscus and Bradey Holtz each had a pair of steals.

Fiscus was again high man against Merino as he scored 25 points. Lewis dropped in 17 and Barrett 14. Josh’s cousin, Connor Fiscus, led all scorers for the Falcons with 29 points. Holtz helped the offensive attack with 3 assists.

Defensively, Lewis had 9 rebounds. Heller aided the defense with 3 steals while Cody Wilson, Lewis and Barrett each had a pair of thefts.

“This was a fun game to coach, play and watch. The only thing I would change is that we would have won,” said Coach Fiscus. “My son Josh and my nephew Connor battled and it was a joy to watch. I knew that Connor would be a problem for us on the glass and his rebounding was the difference in the game.”

The Bulldogs hope to change their fortunes on Friday night when they face another important district game against Fleming at home.
