Sister Emily Peetz, OSU, 89, died Thursday, January 2, 2014, at the University of Louisville Hospital.
Emily was born to John Peter Peetz, Sr. and Clara Bolke on Oct. 30, 1924 in Sidney, and entered the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville in 1943. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ursuline College, Louisville, and a Master of Arts degree from Creighton University, Omaha.
In Louisville, Sister Emily taught at St. Elizabeth (1945 - 1947) and at St. Helen (1947 - 1952) parish schools, and was principal of St. Rita parish school (1968 - 1973). She served as a pastoral associate at St. Vincent DePaul parish (1974 - 1996). From 1998 to 2012, Sister Emily gave volunteer service at Parkway Medical Center, Alliant Health Systems, the James Graham Brown Cancer Center, University of Louisville Hospital, Norton Pavilion, Kosair Children's Hospital, Norton Children's Hospital and at the Louisville International Airport.
Sister also served at schools in Cumberland, Md; Jackson, Miss.; Omaha and Columbia SC, and was a parish coordinator in St. Cloud, Minn.
Her parents John & Clara preceded her in death as well as brother John Jr., Kenneth & Keith and sister Jean Rourke.
Visitation will be at the Ursuline Motherhouse, 3115 Lexington Road, on Tues., Jan. 7 from 4 to 7 p.m., followed by a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Wed., Jan. 8 at 11 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel, with interment in St. Michael Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bosse Funeral Home.
