The Leyton hoop team opened its season on Friday on a positive note with a 47-42 win against the hosts at the Bayard Invitational.
Things didn't go as well in their second contest on Saturday when the Warriors fell to Bridgeport 61-43.
In the season opener against Bayard, Cody McKay paced the Warriors on offense with 22 points, while Brennen Cruise tacked on 11. Cruise matched his point total on the boards with 11 rebounds while Dylan Brenner and Jared Westman pulled down 5 each.
"We need to cut down on turnovers we simply had too may," said the Warriors Head Coach Gary Oltmann. "I recognized some issues in the Bayard game that came back to bite us against Bridgeport."
Leyton struggled with its shooting against Bridgeport especially from three-point range. From behind the arc, the Warriors were just 2-15.
"We did manage to cut down on our turnovers but when you shoot like we did you're going to struggle," Oltmann said.
Despite the overall performance, Brenner had a solid game with 19 points and Cruise 10. Cruise was the rebound leader with 8 while Brenner pulled down 4.
Leyton crosses the state line to meet their next opponent. The Warriors will travel to Peetz on Tuesday to take on the Bulldogs.
