Serving proudly since 1873 as the beautiful Nebraska Panhandle's first newspaper
Carol Mason of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in Sidney presented Larry Nelson with the Excellence in Community Service Award on Tuesday morning. Nelson was nominated because of his service to fellow veterans. He has written articles telling veterans' stories for local newspapers, among many other things. Nelson is also a collector. He has 42 mannequins clad in different service uniforms. "He continues the DAR's mission to promote patriotism," Mason said.
This award is given any time there is a worthy recipient. The DAR had to send applications to the state DAR organization and the national office in Washington D.C., along with recommendation letters and copies of his writing.
