Marie Nielsen, 89, of Potter, Nebraska passed away Sat., Nov. 23, 2013 at Sidney Regional Medical Center, Extended Care in Sidney.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Sat., Nov. 30, 2013 in the Prairie West Church in Potter, with Rev. Betsy Galloway-Carew officiating. Burial will follow in the Potter Cemetery.
Memorials have been established to the Potter Historical Foundation and the Potter Rescue Unit.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.

Sophia Marie Nielsen, the daughter of Walter and Esther Pearson Sears, was born November 26, 1924, in Sheridan County, NE. She lived with her parents south of Rushville until 1935 when they moved south of Hay Springs, Neb. In 1942 she moved to Sidney, NE and was united in marriage to Arvin B. Nielsen on April 5, 1944 at the Potter United Methodist Church.
Marie will be remembered for her selflessness, loyalty, hard work on the farm and in the kitchen, and for her wonderful cooking, pristine garden and masterful care of animals. She especially loved birds and flowers. She loved her family and always made time for them. Her steadfast love, strength and presence will be greatly missed.
Survivors include two sons, Russ and wife Mary Nielsen, and Donald and wife Amber Nielsen, all of Potter; three daughters, Elaine and husband Leo Noble of Potter, Susan and husband Terry Taylor of Truth or Consequences, N.M., and Cheryl Nielsen of Sidney; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her infant sister, parents and husband.
