Norris sweeps Elkhorn to capture state class B volleyball crown
The Norris Titans won the Nebraska Class B High School Volleyball Championship on Saturday with a 3-0 win over the Elkhorn South Storm at Grand Island’s Heartland Event Center.
Both Norris (30-8) and Elkhorn South (22-14) proved to be giant killers as both made it to the finals from the bottom of the bracket. Elkhorn South qualified at No. 8 and Norris was installed as the No. 6 team. On its way to the final Elkhorn South defeated top seeded Pius X 3-2 and Omaha Skutt Catholic 3-2. Norris made its way to the final by erasing third seeded Waverly 3-2 and Grand Island Northwest 3-1.
In Class A No. 2 Omaha Marion stopped top seeded MIllard West in five sets to earn the state championship. Sixth seeded Kearney Catholic was the winner in Class C1 in five sets over MInden. Second seed Hastings St. Cecilia took only four sets to end No. 1 Freeman’s hopes in Class C2. No. 1 St. Mary’s now wears the crown in D1 after toppling No. 2 Bruning-Davenport/Shickley in four sets. All finals were played at the Heartland Event Center.
