Junior high volleyball squad wrap up successful season

The Sidney seventh grade volleyball team capped off a perfect 2013 season Monday night by sweeping Scottsbluff 25-12 and 25-4.

"Not only did the girls finish undefeated at 12-0, they also won every match in straight sets," said Raiders Coach Jack Thorpe. "That rarely happens at any level in volleyball."

Sidney won regular season games against Gering, Kimball, Sterling, Alliance, Ogallala and Scottsbluff. The Raiders were the champions at the Gering Invitational where they beat Mitchell, Alliance and Gering. They also won the Alliance Invitational with victories over Hyannis, Chadron and Gering.

Thorpe and Coach Jenn Dorart coached the team of 23 girls.

The eighth grade team also had a very successful season finishing with a record of 9-3. HIghlights of their season were winning the Alliance Invitational and placing third at the Sidney Invitational. The eighth-grade team had 22 players and were coached by Judi Roach and Barb Snyder.
