Sharing common sense

My generation is jam-packed with over sharers. People use social media as outlets to express their opinions or let the world know their every move.

This is especially apparent during any kind of political discrepancy. Just like the Jimmy Kimmel skit asking if people support Obamacare or the Affordable Care Act, people believe that they’re more informed than they actually are. Even celebrities express their political opinions to their Twitter followers and people adapt those views without conducting any of their own research.

Procrastinating doing homework during the election last year was almost worse than the homework itself. Just because one person agrees with you doesn’t necessarily make your opinion is gold.

Everyone just gets on each other’s nerves during those times, anyway.

Just like any sort of political issue, people love to post updates about the weather. Yes, it’s fall and everyone loves this season because you get to pull out your favorite oversized sweater. But, if I see one more post about “Having my first pumpkin spice latte of the fall!” I’m going to scream. They’re delicious, I get that, but I’m getting quite sick of my timeline and newsfeed being full of pictures of Starbucks cups. The season comes once every year, and everyone’s aware.

Also, is there really a need to upload a picture of all your meals? If you normally don’t cook and suddenly make a masterpiece in the kitchen one night, then that’s okay. As long as this doesn’t occur every day, then that can slide.

However, the worst of all are the people who post updates about their breakups/complicated relationships. If you’re sad, is posting about how much you’re crying really going to make your significant other going to want to get back together? Or is talking trash about them really making you feel that much better? Neither case is healthy. Please stop using social media as a diary, because the world is judging you. Lets go back to using those websites to stay informed and reconnect with old friends.

It’s as if every invention to make life easier is backfiring. Come on, y’all. Lets use some common sense, even though it’s not as common as it used to be.
