Potter-Dix drops two at Paxton

Though 1-0 in district play, the young Potter-Dix Coyotes volleyball team's overall record slipped to 2-7 after dropping a pair of matches at a Paxton triangular meet last night.

Host Paxton (6-5) first handed the Coyotes a straight set loss 25-15 and 25-9. In the nightcap, Potter-Dix gave the Wallace Wildcats (6-3) a fierce battle. In the end, however, the Coyotes dropped a three setter 13-25, 25-16 and 22-25.

"We really struggled to get going tonight. We had way too many unforced errors against Paxton," said Coyotes Head Coach Kristi Jung. "We finally got it going against Wallace but we couldn't put it away."

In the opener against Paxton, freshman Alexus Rozelle and Dawson Sharman led the squad in kills with four while sophomore Regyn HIcks slammed down three. Hicks and Morgan Wolff led the diggers with five each. Rozelle and Taylor Juelfs had four. Juelfs also led the setters with 10 assists.

In the nail biter versus Wallace, Rozelle, Kinley Vowers and Hicks were a strong trio at the net as they collected 11, eight and seven kills respectively. Sharman, Juelfs and Hicks led in digs with 10, nine and eight. Rozelle and Vowers added six apiece and Wolff five.

"When we played aggressively we had Wallace down," Jung said. "Unfortunately we didn't maintain that aggression and allowed them back into the match."

The Coyotes are next in action on Saturday when they host their own invite. The action gets underway at 8:30 a.m. and will include 11-1 Leyton.
