2013 For Peetz Sake Parade Marshalls

The 2013 For Peetz Sake Parade Marshalls are Maynard and Norma Jean Schumacher.

Maynard and Norma have lived in the area most of their lives. Maynard was born in Petersburg, Nebraska, and moved to Peetzwhen he was 4-years-old. Norma was born in Sidney. They married on January 23, 1951 at St. Patrick’s Church in Sidney. They lived on a farm south of Sidney and moved to Peetzin 1968.

Maynard and Norma had 11 children: Elaine who passed away at 18 months of age, Gwen (Nienhueser) of Greeley, Phil of Peetz, Clem of Sidney, Wayne of Peetz, Marleen (Nienhueser) of Sidney, Leona (Larson) of Greeley, Roberta (Brauer) of Sidney, Jeff of Sterling, Scott of Greeley, and Craig of Sterling. Maynard and Norma's children have all graduated from Peetz High School, as well as five grandchildren.

They have twenty-five grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Maynard worked for Marathon Oil Company for 19 years, dry land farmed, and raised cattle and hogs until his retirement in 1989. Besides raising her own children, Norma provided day care out of her home in Peetz, worked at Safe Play in Sidney, and was a cook in the Sidney School District.

After Maynard's retirement, the couple moved to Sidney. Norma has been active in her communities by serving on the Altar and Rosary Societies, was president of the Peetz Legion Auxilary and remains an existing member of the Auxilary, and volunteers her time at the Rummage House in Sidney. She loved working with ceramics, bowling and playing cards. Maynard served as president of the Peetz Cooperative Telephone Company, is a member of the Peetz Legion, Sidney Knights of Columbus and the Sidney Elks.

Even though he is retired, Maynard continues to enjoy checking the cattle and crops. They both enjoy playing cards, visiting with friends, and love the company of their family.
