The Sidney Red Raiders junior varsity girls cross country team finished third while the boys were sixth at the Chadron HIgh School Cross Country Meet on Saturday morning.
The Gering Bulldogs won both portions of the meet with 20 points to edge the host Chadron Cardinals by a single point in the girls competition. The Bulldogs 26 points were enough to get the job done in the boys competition while Chadron (45) was again the runnerup.
With a sixth-place finish Genessa Schilz was the top girls runner for Sidney by completing the 5K course in 23:13. The Raiders' Brianna West (25:21), Preslie Allen (25:40) and Breanna Bowker (32:11) also competed for Sidney.
Allen Kissack was the top Sidney finisher in the boys race with a time of 20:49. He was followed by Ryan Aurich (20:56), Manjesh Mogallipalli (21:23) and Thomas Webb (22:06).
The individual girls race winner was Dani Wellnitz in 21:13, a junior at Gordon-Rushville. Gering was represented by the second and third-place finishers. Second was Kali Rimington (21:46) and third was Rebekah Rawlings (22:21).
The Bulldogs' Steven Juarez took honors in the boys race in 18:23 while Chadron's Phil Duncan (18:32) and Alec Burk (18:47) were second and third respectively.
In the middle school competition, Mitch Porter completed the 3K course in 10:39 to earn a third-place finish for Sidney. Conner Currier was right behind in fourth place in 10:49. Christian Balandran also cracked the top 10 for the Raiders with his eighth-place finish in 10:54.
Other Sidney finishers included Alec Johnson (11:01), Taylor Hart (11:16), William Draper (11:18), Elea McKnight (11:56), Drew Reece (12:10), Charlie Brockhaus (12:14), Cole Westfall (12:32), Brennan Andrew (12:51), Owen Dodson (13:02), Connor Lindeman (13:05), Tiffany Sweetser (13:06), Vincent Hernandez (13:13), Amber Brekhus (13:21), Cassie Kilmurray (13:37), Lauren Uhlir (14:06), Dylan Charles (14:32), Kollyn Welmer (14:53), Sidney Sunderland (15:22) and Hunter Schilz (17:38).
