Peetz knocks off Pawnee, 44-26

The Peetz Bulldogs football team broke open tie game in the third quarter by scoring 22 points on its way to a 44-26 win in Grover, Colo. Friday night.

The Dogs (3-0) second-half outburst preserved their perfect record thus far in the young season. The Coyotes fell to 0-3.

"In the second half we started to block, that's about all their was to it," said Bulldgos head coach Scott Sorensen.

The Bulldogs more proficient blocking allowed Jordan Nelson to run for 247 yards and four touchdowns on just 24 carries. Logan Vach had another strong game with 129 yards on 17 carries. Nelson picked up most of his yards in the second half thanks to strong blocking from Corbin Heller, Garin Cox, Garrett Roelle and Cody Wilson.

Roelle and Vach accounted for the Bulldogs other touchdowns.

Wilson also had a big day defensively as he led Peetz with 17 tackles. Vach had 10 take downs while Tre Lewis made 9 stops. Wilson added two second-half interceptions to his day.

"(Wilson) made a lot of open-field tackles," said Sorensen.

With all the open field in six-man football, speed is a critical factor. Wilson's quickness on defense was a big part of the winning formula suggested Sorensen.

The defense was also able to keep Pawnee's talented receiver, Trent Timm, in front of it in the second half. Timm had two big receptions in the first half.

The victory reversed a three-year trend in which the Coyotes have defeated the Bulldogs. Last year, Peetz lost a 68-55 shootout. Despite the three-game run against it, Peetz still holds a recent advantage over the Coyotes with a 5-4 record.

The Bulldogs travel to New Raymer, Colo. to take on Prarie (1-1) on Friday night. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
