Night of Hope raises $43,000 for cancer patients

Night of Hope was held

at Legion Park Aug. 9. The

event celebrates the victims

and survivors of cancer, as

well as their families, in

Cheyenne County and surrounding

area.

This year’s effort raised

over $43,000. Funds cover

travel and other expenses

for local cancer patients.

While luminaries and the

survivor’s walk once again

drew crowds, the evening

featured a unique fundraising

twist—the “chair-ty.”

Supporters auctioned off 17

chairs, earning $3,300.

“Now that people know

what it is, it will be much

easier for them to donate a

chair,” Brenda Noel said.

Special honors were

directed toward Shelly

Price for her contribution

with Pink Events. She

was recognized with the

first Supporter of the Year

award.

“I was surprised,” Price

admitted. “The committee

was trying to find a way

to thank the youth and

high school sports groups

that raised over $7,000

with three combined Pink

Events. My name was put

on the plaque—the reality

is I share this award with

every athlete, coach, committee

member, parent and

person who supported these

events.”

The award winner does,

however, hold the cause in

a special place.

“My mother lost her life

to breast cancer, and my

passion is helping those

who suffer from cancer,” she

explained. “I have gotten

our Sidney youth to support

these people financially and

in our hearts as we wear

Pink.”

Price and other volunteers

put together the Take

Down Cancer event with

the help of Sidney wrestlers

of all ages. The Sidney High

School basketball team and

their fans weighed in with

Points for Pink, as well.

“Sidney Wrestling currently

holds the top spot

for donations,” Price said.

“I challenge everyone to

step up and support Sidney

Raider Pink events in the

future.”

Night of Hope is an

annual fundraising event,

aided by several such

efforts throughout the year.

Ninety percent of the money

raised will help those who

live in Cheyenne County

with the final ten percent

going toward the expenses

of cancer patients that live

in Kimball, Chappell and

Peetz.
