This summer ’s wheat
harvest was a mixed bag—
low on yield, high on quality.
And recent rain has
spurred optimistism about
fall crops.
Farmers were cutting
wheat for a more extended
time period than is
usual and fields yielded
less than an average crop,
said Dave Secrest of Cross
Roads Cooperative.
There were a few reasons
for a prolonged harvest.
“It was stretched out
because of hail damage,”
said Logan Snyder, merchandiser
at Scoular Grain.
“And it took a lot longer to
get the moisture out.”
