A new doctor joins the staff of Sidney Regional Medical Center this week. Dr. Rebecca Allard will begin seeing patients at SRMC on August 1.
"Dr Allard's focus is toward providing care for the entire family," said SRMC director of public relations Evie Parsons. "She is dedicated to serving all ages and needs."
The incoming doctor was most recently employed at Cheyenne County Hospital in St. Francis, Kans. Because she spent the last five years working at this small town hospital, she is familiar with the unique challenges patients face in a rural setting. Dr. Allard was inspired to pursue medicine by the hometown doctor who cared for her family members while she was growing up in Smith Center, Kans.
Dr. Allard was educated at Yale University and the University of Kansas School of Medicine.
"Dr. Allard has a passion for rural health," Parsons said. "She especially likes obstetrics."
Dr. Allard's doctorate is in family practice and she is interested in many facets of medicine and well being.
“I have a special focus toward family as a wife and mother of two,” Dr. Allard reported in a statement. “And I fully understand the struggles of juggling a busy, active life and finding the best resources for healthcare.”
Dr. Allard and her husband, Kent Allard have two daughters, Sidney who is 7, and Sara who is 4.
The entire Allard family is looking forward to life in Sidney. The Allards like spending time in the outdoors, taking part in 4-H, and are especially excited about practicing their sharpshooting skills at the shooting park. Allard decided to relocate to Sidney for a more balanced lifestyle for she and her family. She hopes they will all flourish in Sidney.
The SRMC physicians clinic will now boast five doctors including Dr. Allard, Dr. Cutright, Dr. Dorwart, Dr. Matthews and Dr. Shaw. The facility also features two physician’s assistants in the clinic and two physician assistants in Emergency. SRMC is also staffed with one general surgeon, an urologist and a surgical assist.
Work on the new SRMC building is slated to start in May 2014. The new hospital will have more operating and procedure rooms as well as more post and pre operative space. All the physicians have agreed to give up their offices in lieu of more space for patients in the new facility. Jason Petik, CEO of SRMC hopes to choose a contractor for the new project by the end of August.
Adding new personnel is part of the expansion of services.
Dr. Allard's commitment and passion as an experienced family practice physician aligns with SRMC's mission of providing high-quality compassionate care, Parsons said in an earlier statement.
